Instructional Charts for Edokpolor Grammar School

Supporting teaching and learning through visual aids for 205 students in Benin City..

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Location: Edokpolor Grammar School, New Benin, Benin City, Edo State

Date: 17 February 2026

Program: IGNITE — Igniting Literacy Across Africa

Beneficiaries: 205 students (SS1 and SS2 Science classes)

Background and Problem Statement

When ALP assessed the learning environment at Edokpolor Grammar School, it highlighted the limited availability of visual learning aids in classrooms.

Instructional charts are known to improve lesson delivery, boost student understanding, and foster engagement. The assessment identified an opportunity to enhance teaching and learning through the provision of these materials.

This prompted the implementation of the instructional charts donation to support teaching and learning at the school.

Project Objectives

The objectives of this intervention were to:

  • Improve teaching and learning through the provision of instructional charts.
  • Enhance student understanding and engagement during lessons.
  • Support teachers in delivering lessons effectively using visual learning aids.
  • Promote a more interactive and resourceful classroom environment.

Description of the Intervention

On 17 February 2026, African Literacy Project donated a set of instructional charts to Edokpolor Grammar School. The charts were formally received by the school management, headed by the principal, Mrs. Amusa Iyamah, and placed in classrooms to support teaching and learning in various subject areas.

The instructional charts donated support key subject lessons at the senior secondary level:

Biology: Charts illustrating the digestive system, circulatory system, male and female reproductive systems, skeletal system, respiratory system, mouth, tongue and speech, and heart.

Geography: Charts depicting the solar system, map of Nigeria, world map, pollution, and means of transportation.

Chemistry: Charts covering the periodic table, chemical reactions, compounds and mixtures, and oxidation and reduction.

Physics: Charts covering magnetism and electromagnetism, lenses and mirrors, friction, waves, radio waves, dynamics, energy, sound, atoms and molecules, crystals, salts, gravity, motion, metals, and air.

The charts were placed in the SS1 and SS2 Science classrooms to support subject instruction at that level. A total of 105 students in SS1 Science class and 100 students in SS2 Science class will benefit directly from the use of these visual learning aids during classroom lessons.

Beneficiary Feedback

Students and teachers expressed appreciation for the new learning materials, noting their usefulness in improving lesson comprehension and classroom engagement.
