Nine out of ten children in sub-Saharan Africa can’t read a simple text by age 10. Not because they’re incapable. Because five students share one textbook. There’s nothing to practice with at home. And a child who can’t read falls behind in everything else. They disengage. Eventually, many stop coming altogether.
