More than half of the world’s out-of-school children live in sub-Saharan Africa. And those who do make it to class are met with crumbling buildings, non-existence of books, teachers stretched thin and families who can’t afford basic supplies.
African Literacy Project exists to close that gap through sustainable, community-driven programs.
Benin City, Nigeria
Every child deserves access to quality education.
We focus on four pillars that make learning possible.
Igniting Literacy Across Africa
Reading opens every other door. IGNITE provides books, reading materials, and literacy support to children in public schools. When a child learns to read, they gain access to everything else education offers.
Transforming Learning Environments
Children can’t focus in broken classrooms. TRANSFORM renovates neglected school spaces from Walls to Floors, Desks, Lighting and a good ventilation. A dignified environment tells children they matter before the lesson even begins.
Keeping Kids in School
Getting children enrolled is one thing. Keeping them there is another. ATTEND tackles the barriers that pull kids out of classrooms such as poverty, distance, family pressure, lack of supplies. We address the issues keeping children home.
Empowering Africa’s Educators
Teachers shape futures. But too many are undertrained, underpaid,
and undersupported. ELEVATE provides professional development, resources, and certification support so educators can deliver the
quality instruction students deserve.
